While onboarding a new RTO client, we saw first-hand how the Pre-Validation Report could prevent a potential assessment and compliance issue.

Before assessments are delivered, the Pre-Validation Report checks assessment materials for inconsistencies and potential issues.

During this process, the platform identified a mismatch between the Trainer Guide and Student Assessment Guide:

When “NOS” Meant Garden Hose

Many years ago, we experienced a similar issue in our own RTO.

During a review of a student’s marked assessment, we discovered something surprising.

The question asked: “What is NOS?”

For an ICT unit, the expected answer related to Network Operating Systems.

Instead, the student had copied and pasted information from Google about a garden hose.

The response had been marked satisfactory.

The error was only discovered later during our post-validation review.

When we asked the trainer how such an obvious mistake had been missed, the response was simple:

“I don’t have time to read every answer.”
